Another cool and unsettled May day

The daily forecast from Idaho's largest, most experienced team of meteorologists.

BOISE, Idaho — Unsettled and cool weather continues on this second day of May as a quick-moving disturbance moves across the Northwest. Light precipitation spread into eastern Oregon before sunrise Thursday, with clouds overtaking SW Idaho early and scattered showers on deck by late morning. Under mostly cloudy skies and with the low-pressure center overhead later this afternoon, temperatures will remain much cooler than normal, with Boise warming to just 58° with breezy winds at times and hit-or-miss showers throughout the afternoon.

As the current system exits east tonight, skies will clear, leading to a chilly Friday morning but a beautiful Friday afternoon. Temperatures will rebound back closer to normal tomorrow with highs in the upper 60s in the Treasure Valley with abundant sunshine to wrap the work week. If you've got any yard work to get done or a lawn that needs to be mowed, tomorrow will a perfect day to get outside!

Over the weekend, get ready for some 'weather whiplash' as we've got a mild but mostly cloudy Saturday on tap ahead of a dramatic cooldown for Sunday, courtesy of a strong storm system that will dive south into the Pacific Northwest early in the weekend. Winds will start howling Saturday evening and rain arrives by dinnertime Saturday, with off-and-on showers anticipated through Sunday. High temps in Boise go from near 70° on Saturday to just the mid-50s on Sunday, and will stay cooler than normal into the middle of next week.

As temperatures drop this weekend, snow will be flying in the mountains at times, with 10" or more possible on the very highest peaks by Tuesday and 1-2" of accumulation possible in mountain valleys.
